Job Description
The City of Saratoga Springs has an opening for a Utility Maintenance Worker I to work in our water department. The primary responsibility of this position to perform blue staking the Citys utilities. Other responsibilities include setting water meters general maintenance on the water system. This employee will also assist in the ongoing operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer, storm drainage, streets and park maintenance throughout the City. This employee also functions as one of the Citys principal on-call employees for after hour emergencies related to area of responsibility and for snow plowing.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Perform daily blue staking (locating) of City utilities.
Perform site inspections of culinary and secondary water facilities to ensure adequate water levels and function.
Repair and coordination of repairs to water facilities as needed.
Installation of water meters as needed.
OTHER DUTIES:
Periodic maintenance of storm drainage channels, operation of heavy equipment for such duties and inspection of facilities to ensure adequate storm drainage facilities.
Inspection of all public streets, repair of damaged streets and coordination of maintenance program with the Public Works Supervisor.
Snow plowing of public streets as needed.
General maintenance duties of public facilities as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
BENEFITS: The City offers a competitive benefits package including health, dental, life and long term disability insurance. The City participates in the Utah Public Retirement System (pension). In addition, the City does not participate in Social Security so no Social Security taxes are deducted from your paycheck. In lieu of the Citys Social Security contributions, the City contributes 6.2% of salary into a 401(k) retirement plan. Other benefits include 120 hours of paid time off (PTO), 10 holidays, and a 4/10 work week (Monday-Thursday 7 am-6 pm).

Requirements
Experience: Two (2) years of experience working with public works systems such as water facilities, streets, sewer facilities, storm drainage and/or parks; or an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.
Certifications: Ability to obtain:
Water Operator I or II within twelve (12) months of hiring.
OSHA Confined Space Certification.
OSHA Trench Safety Training.
First Aid and CPR Certification.
Utah CDL License or ability to obtain license within (6) months of hiring.
Knowledge of:
Water, sewer, and storm drain systems and their functions, operations and routine maintenance needs.
Basic computer operations and applications.
Correct use of English language and vocabulary.
Ability to:
Interact with the public in emotional situations while maintaining professional and polite demeanor.
Operate moderate to heavy equipment that is needed to perform maintenance duties.
Review and interpret basic to moderately difficult building and construction plans for public utility systems.
Communicate in a concise and effective manner.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with developers, contractors, citizens, coworkers, and supervisors.
Exercise sound and good judgment at all times, but especially in emergency situations.
Deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner.
