Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
As Resident Engineer is qualified to act as responsible professional and to act with authority as delegated by Owner in matters in which engineering precedent has been established. Individuals in this position must possess outstanding personal and technical qualifications, which combined with extensive experience, qualify them for positions of responsibility and judgment. They must demonstrate these abilities through actual supervision of a major construction project. Work procedures and processes required of the position are thoroughly known by the employee. Employees are expected to solve a wide range of construction problems by referring to prior training procedures or available manuals of instruction. Where solutions are not available or attainable, the employee refers the problem to appropriate authority. The employee is expected to utilize good judgment in solving problem situations and to suggest possible solutions insofar as they affect the construction project. Employees are expected to pace themselves and their subordinates to the priority and flow of the construction project, alerting supervisors to schedule and construction problems. Contacts are with other consultant employees, state employees, contractors, subcontractors, utility companies, property owners, and the public. The purpose of these contacts is to plan, coordinate, or advise work efforts or to resolve construction problems by influencing or motivating individuals or groups who may be working toward mutual goals and who may or may not have basically cooperative attitudes. The employee is directly involved with all aspects of construction, including construction office, inspection, and surveying. Employee directly supervises and evaluates employees assigned to the employees crew.
Requirements
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Bachelor’s Degree in engineering.
 Eight years of varied engineering experience with at least four years at the Project engineer level.
 Registration as a Professional Engineer
 Familiarity with corporate policies and objectives.
 Working knowledge of promotional, fiscal, and management aspects of the business.
 Proven technical leadership ability and communication skills to deal effectively with other people at all levels.
 Capable of moderate lifting, walking long distances, and working in inclement weather.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1. Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs engineering projects, including basic organization of team, concepts, format of calculations, section of equipment standards, system design, preparation of plans and specifications. Monitors schedules / costs and adjusts as necessary.
2. Guides and advises staff during preparation of engineering products, and reviews all documents for completeness and accuracy.
3. Participates in marketing of new projects and assists in preparation of proposals.
4. Responsible for project costs incurred on projects.
5. Assists in advancing the professional image of the company by participating in professional societies, publishing papers, serving on civic committees, etc.
6. Acts as client representative with regulatory/permitting agencies in securing approvals, permits, grants, and loam.
7. Prepares final cost estimate for project.
8. Participates in professional research to keep abreast of ahead of technical field.
9. Evaluates and rates professionally, the performance of all personnel working on assigned projects.
POSITION SPECIALIZATION:
1. Preference given to candidates with demonstrated capabilities in the management of large scale transportation projects. This will include overall administration of construction engineering staff, interface with client and contractor representatives, materials quality control oversight, oversight of federal aid contract administration and the documentation associated with these projects.
