Job Description
First Step House is hiring a full time Director of Development. This position is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and developing sources of financial support from cash and in-kind contributions at a level sufficient to ensure the financial stability of First Step House (FSH). The position will assist to maximize revenue by broadening FSH’s base of financial support from contributed income, grants, and sponsorships from foundations, corporations, individuals and tax-based public agencies. The Director of Development serves as a secondary representative for FSH in the community and also manages the fundraising activity of volunteers and board members with respect to special events, programs, and specific projects.
Examples of job responsibilities include:
• Develop and implement a capital campaign for 1.5 million.
• Develop and implement a fundraising program to include: major gifts, annual campaign, corporate and foundation campaigns, and special events.
• Establish annual fund raising goals and budget targets and specific strategies to meet goal and targets.
• Enhance systems for identifying and cultivating effective relationships with prospective donors and recording and tracking all contributions received.
• Recruit, train and utilize volunteers and other staff as appropriate.
• Independently, and with Executive Director, write and develop proposals, materials, solicitation letters, invitations, and other fundraising related materials.
• Plan, organize and effectively execute fundraising events.
• Develop and implement an endowment plan.
Requirements

• Strong knowledge of the Salt Lake City/Utah business community.
• Strong writing skills.
• Planning expertise and the ability to develop creative fund raising strategies and goals to support the organization’s vision and mission.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds and personalities, including business leaders, board members, patrons, artists, government officials, volunteers, and office colleagues.
• Must have high standards of excellence and a continuous improvement orientation.
• Must be computer proficient, i.e. word processing, spread sheets, and database management.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising/development: campaigns, appeals, and grant writing, or a combination.
• Proven knowledge of foundation grant application processes, donor cultivation, and fundraising databases.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
