Ranch Manager


Substantial management experience
Prefer B.S. Degree/Animal Science or related
10-15 years in industry
Prefer 5+ year in management position
Solid cow/calf ranch background
Excellent animal health skills
Purebred and/or A.I. background a plus
Team player/motivator
Handle maintenance and general repair

Southern Utah ranch needs an outstanding person with substantial management experience with larger scale ranch operations background, including multiple employees and range experience. 10 years industry and 5 years in management experience. Business management/budgeting experience highly preferred. Manger will have responsibility for the registered and commercial cow herd. This is a WORKING MANAGER POSITION. Manager will have direct husbandry duties including extensive riding in addition to leading other production employees. Needs to be self motivated and able to motivate others as ranch is progressive with aggressive plans for the future. Practical experience with herd management, nutrition, equipment and property maintenance and management are required. Prefer B.S. degree/animal science or related.


Ranch Manager Responsibilities

Health
Vaccination Protocols
Doctoring/Diagnosing
Breeding
A.I. Protocols & Natural Service
Body Condition Score
Calving
Proper Tagging, Tattooing of all Reg Calves
Keep Records for Age/Source Verified Programs. Commercial Herd
Maintain Cattle Records, calving, matings, culling etc.
Maintain full accounting for each class of cattle.

Nutrition
12 Month mineral program
Take monthly forage samples
Improvements
Maintain corrals, sheds, fences
Maintain trucks, equipment
Build/implement new improvments
Work with NRCS and GIP to fund new projects (do return on investment analysis)

Cattle Movement
Move/keep cattle where they are supposed to be
Extensive riding
Range Health
Manage for excellent uptrending range health
Annual monitoring, photo points etc.
Keep grazing chart record for each pasture.

Government
Handle all grazing issues with BLM, Forest Service, State of Utah and any owners of rented pasture.

Financial
Help draft and manage annual opperating budget.
Stay within budget

Labor Management
Lead/direct (non-office) employees.
Manage part time, seasonal, & day help.
Manage with a TEAM approach, creating a positive environment.
Meet with Owner/Advisory Board Monthly to Review Progress on Goals, Actuals vs Budget etc.

Innovate

Be progressive minded with a willingness to adopt improved methods of beef production.
