Job Description
Under the supervision of the Network and Technical Services Manager, the Network Technician II: LAN/WAN has general responsibility for Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN), and Wireless Local Area Network(WLAN) services in Jordan School District. Responsible for network monitoring, traffic/event analysis, device configuration and troubleshooting network performance to optimize the district’s data/video/voice network. Participates in aspects of planning and implementing network projects throughout the district including installation of new or upgraded equipment or software, identifying and replacing faulty equipment and resolving hardware and software problems possibly related to network connectivity. Provides end-user and Help Desk support for network related questions and assists and trains other network personnel.
Requirements
o Requires an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Networking, Electronics or related field; or a corresponding number of years of directly related work experience in network LAN/WAN.
o Requires four (4) years job related work experience with demonstrated competence.
o Experience in K-12 school setting preferred.
o Requires experience in Windows and Macintosh environments
o Requires experience with network assets (e.g., switches, routers, security devices, and wireless access points).
o Requires experience with VOIP technologies, LAN/WAN/WLAN devices, Video Technologies, and Network Security.
o Requires a valid Utah driver license.
o Requires technical knowledge of industry-standard network technologies.
o Understanding of the principles of computer and network security.
o Requires the ability to work independently through highly complex technical troubleshooting processes.
o Requires effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with others to support the concept of teamwork and customer service.
o Ability to communicate with vendors and carriers to perform troubleshooting, repair and installs.
o Ability to analyze, identify and understand network related problems and weaknesses.
o Ability to make proper work decisions to effectively address multiple priorities at one time.
o Ability to differentiate between unusual software and hardware problems to improve network performance.
o Ability to work well with frequent interruptions.
o Requires four (4) years job related work experience with demonstrated competence.
