Job Description
The City Recorder is an appointed position, which performs professional administrative duties. Under the General Direction of the City Administrator, oversees the activities and operations of the City Recorder’s Office. Manages and directs the design, maintenance, and administration of City Recorder Office including information systems, records and data management, accurate record of council meeting proceedings, and city elections. Monitors and advises on compliance with various federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the government records access and management act, and open meetings.
Requirements
-The ability to possess a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) certificate through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks within three years of hire.

-Knowledge of record management practices and electronic storage and retrieval systems.

- Knowledge of Federal and state statutes pertaining to open meetings; public access to records (GRAMA); record retention; research methods, sources and procedures.

- Knowledge of practices used in minute taking and preparation

- Ability to understand and interpret laws and ordinances governing the operation of the city recorder’s office; maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive administrative information.

- Ability to develop working relationships with elected officials, management, employees, and the public; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and possess strong interpersonal, management, leadership, organizational, and planning skills.

- Ability to operate personal computer (windows) in utilizing various programs to produce or compose formal documents, minutes, reports and records; and operate standard office equipment.

-Experience as a City Recorder or Deputy City Recorder

-Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree.

-Supervisory experience preferred.
