SALT LAKE CITY -- Real Salt Lake's confidence is at an all time high as they head to Chicago for the Eastern Conference Championship against the Fire.
Things looked bleak for RSL when it fell behind 2-0 last week against the Columbus Crew. However, instead of folding, RSL fought back for a 3-2 win.
"Credit to our guys they kept believing in themselves and fighting hard," said Head Coach Jason Kreis.
"That was the old RSL. I think we have matured," said Nick Rimando, RSL's Goal Keeper. "We have been in to many of those games where we put our heads down."
Kyle Beckerman put it bluntly, "We didn't panic!"
No panic at all. RSL came back to beat the defending champs to continue their run in the playoffs.
RSL will be at Chicago Saturday night for the Eastern Conference Championship and the winner of that match will earn a spot in the MLS Cup.
It's the second straight year RSL has made it to the conference title match. A year ago they lost at home to New York and they learned a couple of valuable lessons from that match.
"You can't hit the post! You have to get it into the net. We were a little bit unlucky last year," said Romando. "We played good, but obviously not good enough to win, so that leaves a sour taste in our mouth and we want to go to Chicago and get that victory."
As RSL heads to Chicago for Saturday's conference title match they are at an all time high.
"I believe we are one of the best teams right now," opined Kreis.
Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. this Saturday from Chicago.
