Special High Five for man who spreads smiles in the community
October 23rd, 2009 @ 8:44am

PLEASANT GROVE -- It is a special High 5 Friday. This morning we revealed the winner of our smile giveaway.

Stonehaven Dental partnered with us for the prize -- up to $10,000 in dental work.

After receiving several inspiring stories of people in our community who have been spreading smiles -- but may be in need of a new one -- we have a winner.

A very confused Matt Walker opened the door Thursday to be greeted by family, friends and a KSL camera.

He was familiar with the KSL High 5, but when we told him he had won $10,000 worth of free dental care as his prize, he was, well, speechless.

"Wow. I don't know what to say. Wow. Pretty surprised. Yeah. Lucky me," said Matt.

Over the last two years, Matt has lost close to 200 pounds. He now serves as a motivational speaker, encouraging students to choose a healthy lifestyle and to believe in themselves.

Matt's wife Shauna nominated him, saying he needs a new smile to go with the positive message he shares with teens in our community.

"He's made a lot of changes this last year. He's constantly out there making other friends and making people smile without anything in return," said Shauna Walker.

Matt will be working closely with the folks at Stonehaven Dental over the coming weeks. We will follow his progress and bring you the second half of this story in later months.
