Utah artist killed in highway accident
October 20th, 2009 @ 10:52pm

SEVIER COUNTY -- Utah artist V. Douglas Snow died Tuesday in a highway accident.

You may have seen his abstract works at Salt Lake International Airport or the old Main Library, which is now The Leonardo.

The state also asked Snow to depict conflict and resolution for a mural at Utah's new Supreme Court. A big storm at Capitol Reef provided his inspiration.

"In about 45 minutes it ended, and the sun came out--I mean, really came out brilliantly," Snow explained in a 1997 interview with KSL.

Snow studied at New York's American Art School, Michigan's Cranbrook Academy of Art and as a Fulbright Scholar at Rome's Academy of Fine Arts. He taught art at the University of Utah for more than 30 years and chaired the department from 1966 to 1971.

Snow was 82 and died in a one-car rollover in Sevier County.
