SALT LAKE CITY — A train and a semitruck hauling propane collided in Salt Lake City Wednesday morning after the truck driver drove around railroad crossing arms, according to police.
The truck driver saw a train pass near 1950 W. 500 South around 5:30 a.m. He did not see a second train coming and drove around the crossing arms, according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Mike Ross.
The train clipped the second trailer of the propane truck and knocked it loose, Ross said.
"Thank goodness it didn't rupture the tank," Ross said. "If we would have had an explosion it could have been horrific."
No one was injured and the train received only minor damage.
The truck driver will be cited, according to Ross.
Traffic in the area was being diverted.
