SALT LAKE CITY — Three stories from a wild weekend in sports in today's From Left Field.

Jimmer stays in China

After a season in which he was the Chinese Basketball Association's international MVP, former BYU star Jimmer Fredette decided to stay with the Shanghai Sharks, he announced on Twitter Monday.

> I've decided to go back to Shanghai for a two year contract. Thanks to my family, friends, and fans who have with me throughout everything! Fredette found his niche in the CBA. Thanks to scoring 50 points in his final game, Fredette averaged 37.6 points per contest, finishing just ahead of former Goshen player Errick McCollum's 37.5 final average. Fredette didn't find much NBA interest, though, so he'll return to Shanghai on a 2-year deal.

Home field advantage

The Cincinnati Reds hosted the Miami Marlins this weekend, and one lucky young Reds fan got the chance to meet Marlins shortstop Dee Gordon before the game.

How did he respond? With violence:

I'm a big fan of Gordon's reaction here, too.

Some difficult choices when your car is on fire

Martin Truex Jr. had to figure out how to get out of his car after it set on fire in a wreck at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. So what did he do? He decided to run it into the wall a second time, to slow the car to a stop so he could escape.

"Glad I was able to get out. That fire was bad and had I no brakes," Truex Jr. said in his post-race interview. "Had to run into the wall a second time just to try to get the thing stopped so I could get out."

We're glad Truex Jr. is OK.
