OGDEN — A body discovered in the foothills above 29th Street earlier this month has been identified as a 20-year-old man who had recently moved to the area from Roosevelt, police said.

Weber County Sheriff’s officials said the body, which was found by hikers on May 14, is that of Joe Montes. Police said family members recognized the hat and articles of clothing described when police asked for the public’s help in identifying the man. A positive identification was then made through dental records.

Authorities said they believe Montes died from exposure to the elements and do not suspect foul play in his death. They believe his body was in the foothills for as long as six months before it was discovered.
