1. Huntsman Corp., Swiss company agree to $20B merger

Utah's Huntsman Corp. and Switzerland's Clariant agreed to a merger late Sunday in an all-stock deal that would result in a chemicals giant with a combined value of $20 billion.

The deal, described as a merger of equals, comes as companies in the industry look for a way to cut costs and boost revenue. The merged company will be called HuntsmanClariant.

2. Cottonwood Heights police searching for armed 'serial robber'

Cottonwood Heights police are searching for an armed serial robber who they say has hit several businesses in the Park Center area in the last few weeks.

The most recent robbery occurred Sunday around 6 p.m. at a GameStop at 6949 Park Centre Dr., according to Cottonwood Heights Police Lt. Dan Bartlett.

3. 2-year-old boy drowns in Blacksmith Fork Canyon

A 2-year-old boy drowned near Blacksmith Fork River Sunday morning, according to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., the child was found in the Left Hand Fork waterway that feeds into the Blacksmith Fork River. The boy was a half mile downstream from the campsite where the family was staying and was unresponsive. Hyrum City Fire Department EMTs and Logan City Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed the boy was deceased, officials said.

4. Utah Republicans choose new party chairman and more moderate direction

The Utah GOP has a new chairman, Rob Anderson, who wants to end the party's years-long legal battle with the state over a controversial election law allowing candidates to bypass the delegate-controlled nominating process.

Anderson was elected Saturday by delegates over the state GOP's two-term chairman, James Evans, and vice chairman, Phill Wright, during the annual Utah Republican Party convention held at the South Towne Expo Center.

5. South Salt Lake fearful, frustrated over homeless population decision

While city and community leaders in Salt Lake City seemed content with the decision that a women's shelter will be built at 131 E. 700 South and a mixed gender, segregated facility will be located at 275 W. High Ave., South Salt Lake leaders experienced a roller coaster of emotions Friday.

1. Utah softball routs BYU to advance to consecutive Super Regional

Utah scored eight runs while batting around in the sixth inning, and advanced to its second-consecutive NCAA Super Regional with a 14-0 win over rival BYU in six innings Saturday afternoon at Dumke Family Field.

2. 3A roundup: Grantsville wins 1st softball title since 1998; Dixie walks off with baseball title

Freshman Cooper Vest belted a first-pitch, three-run home run over the right-field wall at Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem to give Dixie a 6-4 win over Snow Canyon in Saturday’s Class 3A state championship game.

3. Syracuse's Woodhall, Springville boys among big winners at state track meet

Syracuse’s Hunter Woodall had a state record, a scholarship from the University of Arkansas and a pair of Paralympic medals before his final state track meet Saturday at BYU.

4. Juan Diego flips script, edges Brighton for boys lacrosse state title

Blake Davis scored his fourth goal of the game with 15 seconds to go, and Juan Diego edged the defending champion Bengals 10-9 in the Class A championship game of the Utah High School Lacrosse League at Alta High School.

5. Rudy Gobert named finalist for Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player

A day after being named an All-NBA player, Rudy Gobert has a chance to add to his award cabinet.

Gobert was named as a finalist for two of the six major NBA awards Friday: the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award and Most Improved Player.
