Transition from softball to baseball
University of British Columbia's Claire Eccles is set to move from softball to baseball, as the Victoria Harbourcats of Canada's West Coast League have signed her to be a pitcher on this summer's roster.
The Harbourcats signed her because of her lefty knuckleball and tailing fastball, which impressed four scouts for Victoria general manager Brad Norris-Jones. Their season starts June 5.
Golfer strips down to underwear to search for ball in lake
This is a sad story. At the NCAA Baton Rouge regional, Jacksonville's David Wicks had his ball three feet away from the hole and marked it, so the other golfer could take his shot. He put the ball in his pocket, like normal.
Then, as the opposing golfer putted, he wanted to check the scorecard, pulling it out of his pocket. But that pulled the ball out of his pocket too, which hit his shoe, then fell into the nearby water.
Uh oh.
So now Wicks would face a two-stroke penalty for losing his ball, unless he found it again in the lake. So he stripped down to his underwear and was given five minutes to find it.
Sadly, he never found the ball, and took the penalty. The good news: Wicks finished with five straight pars to end the day, keeping his team in the regional race.
