TOOELE COUNTY — Authorities are struggling to identify a driver who died Tuesday morning after a crash on I-80 near the Utah-Nevada border.

"There was no ID in the car," Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Nigbur said Tuesday afternoon. "They're having trouble identifying him."

A Nissan Pathfinder was westbound on I-80 around 2:40 a.m. when it sideswiped a box truck about 30 miles east of the state line, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Craig Ward.

The Nissan then slowed down in the right-hand lane and a semitruck slammed into the back of it. The impact caused the Nissan to roll off the road, Ward said.

The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and died, according to Ward.

The individuals in the semitruck and the box truck were not injured.

One lane of I-80 west was closed in the area.

Updates will be posted as they become available.
