LOGAN — Carson Shanks is coming full circle.

The one-time Utah State basketball player has spent the past three seasons at North Dakota, including helping the Fighting Hawks to an NCAA Tournament bid this month.

Now he’s moving on to graduate school — in Logan, Utah.

Shanks announced he will graduate and transfer back to Utah State after a junior season that saw the 7-foot, 245-pound center averaged 5.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 12.6 minutes per game in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Shanks announced his decision Friday on Instagram.

Originally from Prior Lake, Minnesota, Shanks’ original stint with the Aggies last just one semester. He transferred to North Dakota prior to the 2014-15 season, when he averaged 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 18.7 minutes per game.

But his playing time gradually decreased, until he played 19 minutes and score five points against Arizona in the Hawks’ NCAA Tourney opener in Salt Lake City. Shanks announced his intentions to transfer Tuesday before selecting the Aggies.

As a freshman, Shanks was a redshirt candidate for the Aggies before he announced his intentions to transfer to a school that was closer to home. By transferring after one semester, he became eligible for the Fighting Hawks for three and a half years, beginning in 2014.
