MOAB — Two teenagers were killed and three more were injured after their vehicle crashed the morning after prom, police confirmed.

The vehicle was headed north on La Sal Loop Road about 7:30 a.m Sunday when the driver sped around a curve, rolling the vehicle several times, San Juan County Sheriff Rick Eldredge said.

Three of the teenagers weren't wearing seat belts and were ejected during the crash, Eldredge said. Two were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not know whether the two teens who were not thrown from the wreck, including the driver, were wearing seat belts, Eldredge said. The three surviving teenagers were taken to Moab Regional Hospital in serious to critical condition and were later taken by helicopter to other hospitals.

Speed is considered a factor in the crash, Eldredge said, and alcohol is also being investigated a possible contributor.

The teenagers were together after attending junior prom, according to police.

No details about the names or ages of the teenagers involved in the crash were released Sunday.
