SOUTH JORDAN — Twenty-four ounce sodas are free all day Saturday at the two newest Sodalicious locations. In exchange, the company is collecting money for the family of Tyson Mason.

Mason, a Life Flight paramedic for Intermountain Healthcare, died Jan. 22 in a car accident on U.S. 40 near Strawberry Reservoir. He and a co-worker were returning to Salt Lake City from Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt after completing a shift at the Life Flight base there when the accident happened.

The co-worker was critically injured in the crash but was expected to survive. Mason left behind a wife and a son, who is now just 3 weeks old.

Sodalicious founder and CEO Kevin Auering said the tragic story really resonated with him, and he saw the opening of two new stores as a way to help out.

"Even though we haven't all been in that situation we can all feel something there and go: 'I want to help out. Even if it's just a couple of bucks or something, I can still help this person out,'" Auering said.

Sodalicious is matching donations up to $1,000; Auerning said it just feels like the right thing to do.

If you'd like to help out the Mason family and get a free soda, the fundraiser will be going on until 10 p.m. Saturday. Visit the South Jordan store at 1421 South Jordan Parkway, or the Riverton store at 2882 W. 12600 South to help out.
