SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — New data shows Gov. Gary Herbert's inauguration earlier this month cost about $50,000, paid for in private donations and public money.
That's similar to what most recent inaugurations have cost, with the exception of Jon Huntsman Jr.'s elaborate three-day bash in 2005 topping $100,000.
The Utah governor's office reports about $40,000 of the cost of Herbert's Jan. 4 inauguration was paid for with public funds. The rest, about $12,000, was picked up by his political action committee, Friends Of Gary R. Herbert PAC.
Though the state pays most of the costs, Herbert's spokesman Paul Edwards says donated services help keep costs low, though the governor's office says it does not have an estimate of the value of donated services.
The donated services included musical performances from the Utah National Guard 23rd Army Band and Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
