OGDEN — Police are investigating the death of a man who was found shot at a convenience store parking lot early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired near 100 Patterson St. at about 12:44 a.m., according to Ogden police Lt. Will Cragun.

One person who lives near where the shooting happened told KSL News they heard multiple shots fired.

Arrivin officers found a 32-year-old man who had been shot in the parking lot of the SNS Quick Stop convenience store, Cragun said.

"Unfortunately the individual succumbed to his injuries at the scene," the lieutenant said. "And the information gathered on scene was that the suspect had fled the scene."

Late Sunday, investigators released surveillance video from inside the store that shows an individual armed with a handgun. Police are describing the man, at this point, as a person of interest in the case.

Detectives also spent the day looking for evidence, inspecting damage to the convenience store's drive-up window, and executing a search warrant at a neighboring house that was hit by stray bullets. Cragun said said no one in that house was hurt.

As of Sunday evening, investigators did not have a motive for the shooting. Their hope is someone takes a close look at the surveillance video and can provide a tip that helps them solve the case.

Meanwhile, police are trying to re-assure the public that there is not an ongoing threat to their safety.

"Obviously, when we have somebody out there that has committed a homicide, that's a concern," Cragun said. "But I don't know of anything that would cause alarm to the public to think that there's somebody out there who's just randomly going to be out committing more of these crimes."

Anyone who may have any information regarding the case is encouraged to call Ogden police at 801-629-8497 or email detectives@ogdencity.com.
