MAGNA — A Magna man has been charged with kidnapping after police say he kept his girlfriend against her will in their home for about a week.
Roland Bobby Marquez, 50, was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and damage to or interruption of a communication device, a class B misdemeanor.
The ordeal began Thanksgiving Day, when Marquez allegedly hit his girlfriend, knocking her out. The woman later told police that when she woke up, she was naked in a bed, according to court documents.
"(The woman) got out of bed, and (Marquez) blocked the door and said she could use the restroom but had to get back in bed," charges state. Marquez also told the woman "if she tried to call for help, he would kill her before she could reach the door," according to charging documents.
Marquez also kept the woman's cellphone so she couldn't make calls, charges state.
"(The woman) told officers that (Marquez) physically held her in the house for approximately a week and would not leave her leave," according to the charges. "(On Nov. 30), Marquez left the residence and she fled from the house."
The woman went to a hospital, where she was treated for a broken nose and an orbital bone fracture "that may need surgery," according to court documents.
A warrant for Marquez's arrest was issued Friday.
Marquez's criminal history includes a conviction for attempted aggravated kidnapping in a domestic violence-related case in 2007, court records show. He has also been convicted in two other domestic violence-related cases, and charges against him have been dropped in a handful of others.
Marquez has previously pleaded guilty to attempted violation of a protective order, assault, DUI, attempted escape from official custody, and attempted retail theft, among other offenses.
