SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A St. George man has been found guilty for his role in the 2008 death of a baby he was watching.

The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reports that a jury found 39-year-old Gregory Todd Fullerton guilty on Friday of child abuse.

Prosecutors say Fullerton told detectives that he shook the baby and heard the child's neck snap. Fullerton denied that he said that and did that.

Defense attorney Gary Pendleton says he plans to appeal the verdict based on his belief that Fullerton's wasn't properly advised of his right to remain silent during his interview with investigators.

The baby's mother, Samantha Meldrum, says she's hoping the verdict helps her heal and move forward.

Fullerton will be sentenced at a later date. He faces 5 years to life in prison.
