SALT LAKE CITY — Increasingly desirable, but a little unknown to many, international cuisine here in Utah will take you on a tasty journey throughout the state in order to sample exotic foods from around the world.

Here are five international restaurants worth checking out:

Middle East: Layla Grill and Mezze

We visited the provocative and delicious flavor of restaurant Layla Grill and Mezze, located in Holladay, whose menu is created from centuries-old family recipes from the Middle East. The chef's tip is to start with an appetizer which includes a combination of small portions of: grape leaves, Tabbouleh, Halloum cheese and Layla's signature fries.

Their signature dishes, Maroccan Lamb Shank or Maroccan Chicken, will leave your tastebuds desiring more of this fine cuisine that Layla has continued to offer throughout the past six years. It is a family-owned and operated restaurant that is proud to offer exquisite and natural ingredients directly purchased from small local suppliers. For dessert, the mango cheesecake with a touch of the Mediterranean is divine.

The restaurant is open Monday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended, especially on the weekends.

Italian: Caffé Molise

Caffé Molise is a full service restaurant that features fresh Italian cuisine while focusing on regional specialties and local ingredients, according to its website.

Brazilian: Texas de Brazil

Thai: Sawadee Thai Restaurant

At Sawadee Thai Restaurant, individual dishes are adjusted to taste with superb sauces and dips.
