CARROLLTON, Texas — What started out as an ordinary noise complaint call turned into a heartwarming moment between Texas police officers and an unconventional group of dancing men.

David Opegbemi and his groomsmen were practicing a dance for his upcoming wedding in Carrollton, Texas, around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 22, but several neighbors called the police to complain about the noise and the gathering. The groom and his friends thought they were going to get in trouble at first. Instead, the officers enthusiastically agreed to see a run through.

“Our intent was never to disturb the peace. We are just a group of young black educated men who were having a good time and bonding while at dance practice,” Opegbemi wrote in a comment on WFAA-TV’s Facebook page.

The responding officers were treated to a preview of the men dancing to “My Girl” by The Temptations. The footage from an officer’s body camera was shared by the Carrollton Texas Police Department.

“It's sad that we had the police called on us, but that's our world. We understand that we might be perceived as danger, but we hope this shows something positive and that a group of black men at night is not always a threat,” Opegbemi wrote. “Again, we are very thankful for the officers that approached us. With what is going on in the world today, things could have got bad real quick, but thankfully it didn't. For the officer that stayed and let his body cam capture this moment, you sir are everything an officer should be. Outside of serving and protecting, you were kind, friendly and understanding. Great job, and thank you for sharing this video!!!”

Local residents, still reeling from the aftermath of the Dallas officers who were shot to death in July, were touched by the heartwarming moment and offered congratulations to the couple.

"I think that was fabulous! Y'all are great!" wrote one Facebook user.

"How stinking adorable is that! She's a lucky lady! Congrats!" wrote another.

The Carrollton Texas Police Department also responded to WFAA-TV’s post, writing “Congratulations David and Tiera! Thank you for understanding why we wanted to share this part of your special moment.”

The wedding already took place by the time it was shared online, so the dance was still a surprise for Opegbemi's fiancee, Tiera.

"Luckily this was a couple days before our wedding, and I had no idea!!" she wrote. "Saw this on the news and was shocked! BTW, The dance was PERFECT!"

Opegbemi shared the final performance from his wedding this week.

“Our dance finally premiered to the world!!!! Thank you all for the kind words, and thank you for sharing!!” he wrote on WFAA-TV’s Facebook post. “This was truly the best time of my life. I married my best friend and had fun doing it!! Practice in that parking lot definitely paid off.”
