LAS VEGAS (AP) — San Diego State has been picked to win the Mountain West in a preseason media poll.

The Aztecs received 23 of 27 first-place votes and 293 points in the poll released Wednesday, finishing ahead of Nevada at 253 points. New Mexico received three first-place votes and Fresno State, which was fourth in the poll, received one.

Boise State was fifth, followed by Utah State, Colorado State, UNLV, Air Force, Wyoming and San Jose State.

New Mexico's Elijah Brown was named the preseason player of the year after averaging 21.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season.

San Diego State missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven years last season despite winning the conference regular-season title and returns three starters this season.
