TULSA COUNTY, Okla. — A homeless woman was walking down the street barefoot Wednesday afternoon in Oklahoma when she was stopped by a cop.
She thought she was in trouble, a Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman told People Magazine, but was shocked when deputy Brandon Hendrix offered to take her shopping.
“She thought she was going to get arrested,” the spokeswoman told People. “He said, ‘No, no I really mean it. I’d like to take you and buy you a pair of shoes since you don’t have any.’ ”
Hendrix and another deputy took the woman to a nearby Wal-Mart and let her pick out a pair of shoes.
“They matched the dress she was wearing, so she was excited,” the spokeswoman said.
random act of kindness alert: Dep. noticed this woman doesn't own a pair of shoes. So he took her shopping and let her pick out a new pair. pic.twitter.com/7fHPcNg0CF

The deputy with Hendrix was so moved by the gesture that he snapped a picture of them in the checkout line, which has since been shared many times across social media.
"This is the kind of policing I can support," wrote one Twitter user. "Keep it up."
