Even before the Winter Olympics took place in 2002, Utah has always had a strong recreational legacy. If anything, the Salt Lake Olympics created more awareness of the beauties Utah has to offer.

Many areas of Utah offer their share of delights, but Park City definitely has the lion's portion of Olympic-level activities. For decades, serious athletes and joy-seekers have found Park City a haven for training, delicious cuisine and recreation. If you're looking to schedule a training retreat or quick getaway, here are five things to put on your list:

1. Mountain biking/hiking

With over 400 miles of public trails throughout the mountains of Park City, there's plenty to do and see while being one with nature. Even if you don't have a bike, plenty of rentals are available if you want to try something new.

For experienced and novice hikers, Park City offers a variety of trails in every skill level. If you feel like the littler members of your party might enjoy something else, try the Kid's Zipline and Ropes Course at Park City Mountain Resort.

More experienced thrill-seekers will revel in the lift-served mountain biking available at Deer Valley Resort, using specially made chairlifts to get you and your gear on top.

Whether you prefer a leisurely walk along a scenic trail or a more demanding hike or bike ride, Park City will show you how nature and training can go hand in hand.

2. Extreme tubing

If you're not quite at Olympic-level training yet but know how to have a good time, consider trying extreme tubing at the Utah Olympic Park. This activity is perfect for first-timers to Park City, especially young families looking for something for kids of multiple ages.

Using the Nordic ski jumps from the Olympics, you can ride a tube down various-sized hills at speeds up to 50 mph. Kids over the age of 5 are able to ride on smaller hills, with more exciting options for older adventurers. Keep in mind that these famous hills are still used for Olympic trainees during the winter months.

3. Skiing and snowboarding

Speaking of Park City in the winter months, you'll be glad to know that activities are available year-round. In fact, many Park City resorts offer reservations and entertainment for winter and summer visitors.

For those who prefer simply skiing, take to the mountain at Deer Valley Resort. This all-ski resort offers plenty of lodgings, gear storage and shuttling along with guided tours. You can also enjoy a filling meal after a day out on the slopes in one of their three-day lodges.

Snowboarders will be happy to know that Park City has combined two of its resorts to create one of the largest ski/snowboarding areas in the United States. Enjoy the smooth new lifts and award-winning restaurant cuisine at Park City Mountain Resort.

4. Snowmobiling

Along with the winter version of extreme tubing, Park City offers plenty of snowmobiling rentals and pristine trails to enjoy. If you've never snowmobiled before, don't worry. Park City offers lessons and guided tours to keep you safe while enjoying rare views and the exhilaration of speed. Or if you prefer to ride solo, you can always find new paths and excitement on Park City's abundant Rocky Mountain trails.

5. Nightlife

Although Olympians work hard, they play hard, too. Competing and training aren't the end-all to an Olympic career; there's also plenty of networking and socializing. If you're interested in wining and dining, consider events such as Savor the Summit, which happens each June, or choose a tasty Park City Food Tour to tempt your palate.

The Park City Food and Wine Classic is another annual event that brings food and wine connoisseurs from all over the world. You never know whom you might bump into! No matter what time of year, there's always a fun event to attend.

With all the Olympic spirit in the air, now is the perfect time to visit Park City to start making Olympic memories of your own.
