MILLCREEK — A 74-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized Friday after crashing into a car.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was originally transported in critical condition but later upgraded to fair condition after a couple of hours at the hospital, according to Unified police.

The man was traveling through the intersection of [2300 E. Evergreen (3435 South)](<2300 E. Evergreen>) about 11:10 a.m. when a car driven by a 79-year-old woman made a left turn in front of him, said Unified police detective Chuck Malm.

"She turned in front of him, and he impacted the front right side of the car, went into the windshield and onto the ground," Malm said.

Even though the cyclist was wearing a helmet, the collision severely damaged the protective gear, he said. Investigators later learned he suffered mostly hand and leg injuries.

Police were trying to determine Friday how fast the cyclist was going when he hit the car, which vehicle had the right of way, and why the woman apparently didn't see the oncoming cyclist.

No citations were issued Friday.
