TAYLORSVILLE — Seven people were able to escape injury Wednesday when fire ripped through their house.

The fire at 4477 S. Driftwood Drive (1470 West) was reported about 5:30 a.m. Unified Fire Authority paramedic Taylor Sandstrom said the family heard "an explosion or loud bang" that woke them up.

Three of the 10 people who live at the house had already gone to work, he said. The others, including four children, were able to get out safely.

The fire got into the attic, Sandstrom said, and damage to the house was extensive. Early damage estimates were at $100,000.

Investigators believe the fire started on a back deck, but the cause remained under investigation Wednesday morning.

No one was injured. Sandstrom said heat from the fire combined with unusually warm early morning temperatures made for tough firefighting conditions.
