GRANTSVILLE — A Salt Lake City man died early Monday morning when the vehicle he was occupying rolled in Tooele County, according to authorities.
Around 2 a.m., A Honda civic carrying four individuals — three men and one woman — was traveling westbound on I-80 near the Rowley Dugway Interchange when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road to the right, striking a large highway sign, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Lawrence Hopper said. Hopper said the Honda then rolled, end-over-end, several times before coming to a stop on its wheels.
Hopper said Scott Newman, 34, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected when the vehicle rolled. Newman died on the scene. Two of the other occupants of the vehicle were transported to the University of Utah hospital via helicopter and one was taken by ambulance.
Authorities are investigating impairment as a potential factor in the crash.
