SALT LAKE CITY — If you live along the Wasatch Front, you likely saw smoke from the large fire burning along I-80 Friday.

The intense fire emitted plenty of black smoke, eliciting photos and concern from many residents who saw it. The fire destroyed two buildings, forced the closure of I-80 and kept firefighters busy in the heat for hours Friday. It also prompted a grass fire, which forced the Utah Department of Transportation to close both directions of I-80 between I-215 and 5600 West for more than two hours because of concerns over smoke hampering visibility for motorists.

There have also been several house fires around Utah during the past week, as well as a grass fire that residents captured pictures of.

With the heat and dry conditions, we remind residents to take caution and to be vigilant when lighting fireworks for the upcoming 24th of July celebrations or when lighting fires while camping.
