PROVO, Utah (AP) — Officials say the number of visitors to the Timpanogos Cave National Monument in Utah County is on the rise this year.
The Daily Herald reports the monument's superintendent, Jim Ireland, says visits from January to May have gone up 12 percent from the same period in 2015.
He attributes the increase to this year's 100th anniversary of the National Park Service and a recent change that allows visitors to make online reservations for cave tours.
The monument in American Fork has averaged about 40 tours a day since opening in May.
Tours will be closed to the public after Labor Day this year to allow construction to begin on a new visitors center and for upgrades along the trail.
The trail is set to re-open by June 2017.
