HOLLYWOOD — Just when you thought Tim Burton couldn’t get any weirder, the latest trailer for “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” is released.

The movie, set to come out Sept. 30, is based on the first installment of Ransom Riggs’ trilogy. According to the author’s website, millions of copies of the book have been purchased.

“As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” Riggs’ website says.

“As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here — one of whom was his own grandfather — were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow — impossible though it seems — they may still be alive.”

In the second official movie trailer, the peculiar qualities the children possess come to life. One girl eats food from the back of her head. The protagonist claims he is ordinary, but he is at Miss Peregrine’s for a reason.

From the looks of the trailer, the movie seems whimsical, ominous and thrilling. “Hugo” and “Ender’s Game” star Asa Butterfield plays Jacob, and Samuel L. Jackson plays Barron, who appears to be a villain. Watch the trailer to learn more about this unique tale.
