CHILLSVILLE — We could all use some good news on a Monday, especially given the recent tragedies rooted in Orlando.

I love kind people. Last week, I was feeling particularly stressed one day and it must have been pretty obvious on my lunch break, because an observant gardener at my building asked if I was OK. I kind of brushed him off, and yet, just a few minutes later, he produced a rose he'd trimmed off for me. His kindness made my day, and I'm still thinking about it.

Kindness in return

Randy T.

"I work in a shared office building, and the lady at the front desk is a kind and sweet woman. She always says 'hello' and learns everyone’s name (there are about 700 people in our building.) She is genuinely interested in others and always has a big smile on her face.

"One day, her smile was a little smaller than normal so a group of friends pooled some money and got her a bouquet of flowers. There were tears running down her cheeks as she graciously accepted them. She then explained that she enjoyed her job, but it seemed like she tried to be a friend to everyone but didn’t get the same in return. Her smile returned larger than ever."

A thoughtful employee

Sheila R.

"Last week, I was having phone troubles and needed to keep in touch with a sick granddaughter in Colorado. I took my phone to IQ Repair in Layton. I dropped my phone off to be repaired and when I returned to pick it up, I was told that they did not have the correct part to fix it. It was a Saturday afternoon and it was closing time, so I figured I wouldn’t be able to talk to my granddaughter until Monday afternoon ... not so!

"The employee went to their Bountiful store, secured the correct part, went back to Layton and fixed it, and then brought it to my home in West Haven at 8 p.m.! That has to be hands down the best customer service I have ever received! The employee said she wouldn’t feel good about leaving the repair until Monday when I had a sick Granddaughter. It’s been awhile since I felt that a business cared about how I felt! My heartfelt thanks to a company that employs compassionate people."

A good friend

Faith J.

"My husband does most of the cooking in our family — I really hate to cook. As a result, whenever he is out of town for extended periods of time, my friends who know me well joke that I am going to starve to death. Well, my husband was gone this last week, and one day out of the blue, my friend texted me and told me to come by her house to pick up dinner! It was really sweet of her and totally made my whole day. And it was delicious too!"
