BATON ROUGE, La. — Utah Valley’s first-ever NCAA Regional didn’t start off as the Wolverines had hoped.

Jake Fraley smacked a two-run homer in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning Friday to give LSU all the scoring it needed en route to a 7-1 win over the Wolverines in a game that was delayed by severe thunderstorms throughout Louisiana.

Kramer Robertson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for LSU (43-18), and Greg Deichmann added a two-run shot for the Tigers on a single to right field with two outs in the bottom of the third. Deichmann nearly had a two-run double in the third, but Mark Krueger made a lengthy relay throw to get the final out of the inning when LSU tried to plate an extra runner.

Justin Erlandson drove in the first run in NCAA Regional history for Utah Valley (37-22), plating Krueger in the top of the second with the Wolverines’ lone tally.

Bryce Jordan added an RBI single in the fifth for LSU. Deichmann ripped a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, and the Wolverines could do little more.

UVU senior pitcher Danny Beddes went three innings giving up four hits and four earned runs with three strikeouts and four walks to take the loss.

Utah Valley will face the loser of Saturday morning’s suspended game between Southeast Louisiana and Rice in an elimination game, the second of three contests scheduled to be played at the weather-delayed regional.

All three games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
