'My way of saying thank you:' Veteran with flag salutes motorists for Memorial Day

SALT LAKE CITY — U.S. Army veteran Bob Fillmore stood on the 1700 North overpass above I-215 West to salute drivers as they passed by in honor of Memorial Day on Monday.

Fillmore, a veteran of the Vietnam war, said he salutes passing motorists on Veterans Day and Memorial Day to lift their spirits and inspire patriotism.

"It’s my way of saying thank you and welcome home and keep your head up" to other veterans, Fillmore said.

Fillmore started saluting at 5:15 a.m. Monday and said he would continue until he was too exhausted to go on.
