SMITHFIELD, Cache County — A man accused of inviting his father to his house and then stabbing him multiple times was charged Monday with murder.

Shane Alan Hallstrom, 25, of Smithfield, was charged in 1st District Court with the first-degree felony in connection with the death of Calvin Leon Hallstrom, 58.

On Thursday, Shane Hallstrom invited his father to his house, 380 E. 160 South, to spend the evening together, according to police. Hallstrom's parents had been divorced for some time, and Shane Hallstrom lived with his mother.

Investigators believe Hallstrom stabbed his father in the neck multiple times in his driveway. Calvin Hallstrom died a short time later at a local hospital.

A motive for the attack had not been given as of Monday.
