DAVIS COUNTY — Officials are warning residents in Davis County to get ready for 70 miles per hour wind gusts over the weekend.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to make sure anything that could blow away either be tied down or brought inside.

“Generally we’ll see wind gusts in the 60 to 70 miles per hour range,” said Steve Rogowski, Senior Forecaster at the National Weather Service. “Wind gusts may exceed 70 miles per hour in the small area from Bountiful to Farmington, Centerville. Particularly Davis County seems to get hit the hardest due to our topography.”

Pamela Bennett remembers how much damage the wind did during a bad storm in 2011.

“It was horrible. Trees down everywhere, and part of our roof, our soffit, was all in the backyard,” Bennett said.

Sgt. DeeAnn Servey from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office remembers similar destruction.

“Just catastrophic. Trees blown over, trampolines on houses,” Survey said. “2011 was a wind storm that I think everybody in Davis County can remember.”

In preparation for this weekend’s storm, Servey recommends securing everything around your home.

“You need to go outside, look at your garbage cans, put them in a secure area,” Servey said. “Your lawn furniture, your patio furniture. Those 85 mile per hour gusts will pick that up and put it in your neighbor’s pasture or your neighbor’s yard.”

The peak of the storm is expected on Saturday night from 10 p.m. to midnight, but winds are expected from 10 a.m. Saturday to noon on Sunday.
