ST. GEORGE — A local and unique inn was recently recognized by Trivago as being one of 18 spectacular hotels one needs to put on their bucket list.

Tom and Dorothy Heers opened the Inn on the Cliff two years ago.

Previously called the Rococo Inn, the building was constructed in the 80s but had since been closed and had fallen into disrepair, Dorothy Heers said. The Heers did some renovating and reopened it, something the locals have been thankful for.

Rococo's had been there for a long time, and people missed having the opportunity to eat at the restaurant up on the cliff, Dorothy Heers said.

"A lot of people think of it as their place to go when they're going out for something special," she said of the Cliffside Restaurant. "So we want to keep people thinking of coming there just when they want to have something really good to eat, even if it's not for special occasions."

The unique element of the inn lies in the name itself, according to Dorothy Heers, and guests can see the city, the Pine Valley Mountains and all the way out to Zion National Park.

"There are no bad rooms," she said. "Everybody has a balcony that looks over the view."

The Heers had no idea their inn was going to be recognized. She said she thinks the positive feedback the inn has received is the reason it was recognized.

"Utah's Inn On The Cliff is not for the faint of heart," according to Trivago. "Literally 'on a cliff' overlooking the small town of St. George in southern Utah, the Inn is a gateway to desert staples like Snow Canyon, Pine Mountain and Zion Canyon."

Though November, December and January are slower months for the inn, it stays busy when events are happening in the area.
