SANDY — Real Salt Lake's offseason remodeling continued Friday when the club announced Guyanese international Emery Welshman as its latest forward, moving from last season's one-year stint with Real Monarchs SLC.

The 24-year-old Welshman had six goals and two assists for the Monarchs in 2015, finishing second on the team in goals scored after spending the 2015 preseason with Real Salt Lake.

He also made his international debut with Guyana, scoring two goals in a World Cup qualifying match against St. Vincent & the Grenadines. The young striker finished the year with three goals in five appearances for the Golden Jaguars.

"Emery deserves a lot of credit as he did everything asked of him over the past year," RSL general manager Craig Waibel said in a statement. "He matured and accepted the challenges given to him by the staff and in the end persevered to end the season on a very strong run.

"We are extremely happy for Emery to be the first player to take advantage of his opportunities and look forward to his contributions with the first team in 2016."

Welshman was the 16th pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC, but he made just one regular-season appearance with the Reds before moving to Canadian third-division squad Sigma FC in 2014.

With the Monarchs, Welshman helped the first-year expansion team to a 7-13-8 record while playing a key role in the Monarchs' season-ending five-game winning streak.

Welshman is currently the 28th player on RSL's roster during a busy offseason, which includes the club's four MLS SuperDraft picks and recently re-acquired Designated Player Yura Movsisyan. The former Real Monarchs forward is the club's seventh forward listed on the roster.

RSL opens the 2016 preseason next week in Oceanside, California, and plays its first match of the year in a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal Feb. 24 against Tigres UANL.
