SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced three new missions Thursday in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Vietnam.

The new missions will be created through the realigning of boundaries of current missions. They will operate on or before July 1, according to the LDS Church.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo Kinshasa and Democratic Republic of the Congo Lubumbashi missions will be divided to create the Democratic Republic of the Congo Mbuji-Mayi Mission.

The Nigeria Port Harcourt Mission will be split to create the Nigeria Owerri Mission.

The Vietnam Hanoi Mission will be formed from the Cambodia Phnom Penh Mission, which has had Vietnamese-speaking missionaries serving in Vietnam for several years.

President Lewis Hassell, who has served in Vietnam as part of the Cambodia Phnom Penh mission since May 2015, will preside over the Vietnam Hanoi Mission. He will serve alongside his wife, Sister Mary Bliss Hassell.
