PROVO — When Kyle Collinsworth finished one rebound shy of setting the NCAA record for career triple-doubles in BYU basketball's 95-81 win over Belmont on Saturday night, he shrugged it off.

There would be more games, more chances and more opportunities to set the mark, he reasoned.

"I've been there four of five times, being one assist or one rebound away. So if it happens, it happens," the BYU point guard said nonchalantly after the game. "There will be more opportunities, and I'm going to keep playing aggressively. More will pop up. Opportunities have popped up, and I'm sure this won't be the last."

Collinsworth became college basketball's all-time leader in career triple-doubles with seven after the NCAA reviewed the evening's stats and awarded him one more rebound, as well as one more missed shot, Sunday morning.

Collinsworth's final stat line against the Bruins now reads 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, with both the final rebound and assist occurring in the final minute. With 57 seconds left, Collinsworth dished a pass to Nick Emery for a back-breaking reverse layup in transition to notch his 10th assist. On the next play, Belmont was awarded a free throw, and Dave Rose made a sub to place Collinsworth on nearest the basket to pick up the missed shot for his 10th rebound.

But the Bruins didn't miss, and the final board never came.

Or so everyone thought until Sunday morning.

"I figured I had a couple to go," Collinsworth said after the game. "But I wasn't too sure, and I didn't get it. The first one the guy missed, it bounced right to me. But there were two shots."

Teammate Chase Fischer said he may have considered missing one of his free throws in the final seconds to help Collinsworth set the mark, but the Provo native said he would never ask Fischer to do anything like that.

"If I would've known it was for his last rebound, I might've missed it," said Fischer, before jokingly adding, "I thought it was everybody gets a free hot dog with another point or something."

The NCAA found a Collinsworth missed a shot that was never credited with just under three minutes to play in the first half, and the 6-foot-6 senior from Provo High tried to tip back a follow-up attempt with his left hand before the ball rimmed out and was secured by a Belmont player.

That tip attempt, however, was enough for his career milestone.

Drexel's Michael Anderson set the original career triple-double mark with six from 1984-88, and LSU's Shaquille O'Neal matched it with six from 1989-92. Collinsworth matched the mark last year, becoming the NCAA's leader with six triple-doubles in a single season. He tied the all-time record in the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals against Portland, when he registered 13 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in a win over the Pilots.
