KAYSVILLE — After clinching back-to-back Class 5A state titles and an undefeated season in 2015, the Davis High girls soccer team was named the top team by USA Today on Tuesday afternoon.

The junior-laden Darts marched to a perfect 20-0 record with a 1-0 win over Weber in the 5A state final at Rio Tinto Stadium, and Davis moved up from No. 2 into the top spot in the poll in USA Today's final ranking.

Davis coach Souli Phongsavath said last year's team was "a year ahead of schedule," but he always had a feeling this year's squad could be something special.

"We thought that this senior class would be one looking to do special things," Phongsavath told USA Today. "This year, we thought the sky was the limit with the potential to repeat and run the table. To motivate them a little bit coming off the hype from the last year, we thought if we stayed focused, we could possibly win a national championship."

BYU-bound Olivia Wade, who is also a member of the U.S. U-17 national team pool, scored 32 goals for the Darts in 2015, Utah signee Mikayla Colohan had 15 goals and 37 assists while scoring the state final's lone goal, and the Deseret News' Ms. Soccer Halee Cacciacarne, a Utah commit, anchored a defense that allowed just eight goals all year.

In all, the Darts outscored opponents 109-8 to finish as the only Utah team ranked in the final Super 25. McDonogh School from Owings Mills, Maryland, finished No. 2, followed by Massapequa (N.Y.) High, Waslh Jesuit (Ohio) and Glastonbury (Connecticut) High.
