BOISE — A new YouTube video showing the rescue of an ensnared white-tailed buck is generating a lot of online attention.

According to an article from KTVB News in Boise, the incident actually occurred in August. Fish and Game conservation officer John McLain received a call about a deer that had become entangled and when McLain reached the area and approached the deer, the distressed animal panicked.

Realizing the precariousness of the situation, McLain turned on his body-mounted camera. He wondered whether the rescue video would ultimately show him "getting my butt kicked," he told KTVB.

Officials with the Idaho Fish and Game said that McLain has been shaken up by deer encounters in the past. He once had to help a frightened deer that had become trapped in a batting cage. Of that wild experience, McLain said, "I kind of went for a ride."

But on this particular day, the entangled buck made McLain's job much easier. After the animal exhausted itself, the conservation officer was able to carefully cut the twine from its leg and antlers.

Once freed from the jumbled mess of twine, the buck sprang to its feet and fled the scene. It appeared uninjured from the ordeal.

McLain later posted the video on his personal Facebook page. The Idaho Fish and Game said that while he figured it would generate some shares, McLain was stunned by the worldwide attention it received.

The video has been shared nearly 150,000 times and has more than 69,000 Facebook likes. McLain has received hundreds of congratulatory messages and friend requests, as well.
