CLINTON — Charges have been filed against a Clinton man accused of sexually abusing neighborhood girls for the past 10 years.

Corey Lee VanLare, 36, was charged with four counts of first-degree felony sexual abuse of a child Friday in 2nd District Court.

Police said they have talked to as many as seven young girls and believe there may be additional victims.

Clinton police detective Zeke Swander said police began investigating VanLare in 2013 after a young girl claimed he had sexually abused her.

VanLare, who lived with his wife and children at the time of some of the alleged abuse, had a house that was popular among neighborhood children for its lax rules, according to Swander.

"That was the place to be. That was the place to hang out," Swander said Tuesday when VanLare was arrested.

According to charging documents, three girls between the ages of 7 and 17 have been identified as victims so far.

One of the victims told Swander that VanLare would come into her room at night and touch her genitals, according to prosecutors.

VanLare was in "a position of special trust" in relation to the girl, who lived in Davis County, at the time of the abuse, the documents state.

A second girl told a detective that VanLare sexually abused her at a sleepover at the first victim's house, and that she also saw VanLare touch the first victim sexually, according to court documents. She was also under the age of 14 at the time, prosecutors said.

A third victim, also under the age of 14, reported that VanLare had sexually abused her on several occasions when she visited the first victim's home in 2007 or 2008, according to prosecutors.

The three girls said the incidents took place between 2005 to 2008.

VanLare, who lives in the 3100 West block of 2300 North, also lived in another city in Davis County in the past 10 years, police said.

Anyone who believes they were victimized or knows someone who was is asked to contact Clinton police at 801-614-0800.
