CLINTON — A man was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexually assaulting multiple minors over a period of 10 years.

Clinton police arrested Corey VanLare, 36, on suspicion of aggravated sex abuse of a child, object rape and forcible sex abuse, according to a probable cause statement. However, police said the investigation is still ongoing.

"When we talk to (potential victims) I always ask if they know of this happening to anybody else and another name will come up that I need to speak with," said Clinton police detective Zeke Swander. "That's the frustrating thing. We don't know how many are out there and how many of them have allegations."

As a result, Clinton police are asking anyone who may have had an inappropriate encounter with VanLare to contact detectives by calling 801-614-0800. Swander said they have interviewed seven people so far, with potential victims ranging in age from 7 to 17.

The oldest incident that has been alleged so far occurred in 2005, according to police. Swander said that at the time, VanLare was married and living in Clinton. His home was reportedly a popular hangout spot for neighbors and friends.

"We don't feel like he was luring the kids there, it was just an opportune-type of deal," Swander said.

Police started investigating VanLare after a juvenile female came into the police department to make allegations against him, according to Swander. He said when detectives asked her whether she knew of something similar happening to others, she provided them with multiple names.

Swander said investigators sought out those people for interviews and it "snowballed" from there, with those he interviewed providing more names.

A probable cause statement describes an instance where VanLare allegedly put his hand in a girl's pants and touched her inappropriately. In another instance described in the probable cause statement, VanLare allegedly led a visiting neighbor into a bedroom in his home and locked the door before sexually assaulting her.

VanLare was arrested Monday and booked into the Davis County Jail.

"We need the public's help," Swander said. "If anybody has had any kind of incident in a sexual nature with this guy, give us a call. We're interested in hearing their story and what happened so we can get them some help."
