ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — The best horseshoe pitchers in the world will battle it out in Utah when the state hosts the 2017 world horseshoe tournament.

The city of St. George announced this week that the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association selected the southern Utah city as the host of the July 2017 event.

This year's event was held in Topeka, Kansas.

The two-week tournament has been held in Utah many times in the past, most recently in St. George in 2013.

The contest was held in the Utah city of Murray 13 times from 1947 to 1966.

The St. George Tourism Office estimates that the event will bring $3.5 million to the local economy in 2017 and about 4,000 people, including about 1,200 horseshoe competitors.
