SALT LAKE CITY — Dante Exum was playing with the Australian Boomers, Australia's national basketball team today against Slovenia when he left the game with some sort of knee injury.
Exum was driving to the rim with a jumpstep when he landed, causing serious pain. Here's the video:
The injury happened without contact, and Dante Exum screamed out in pain. Neither are great signs for the extent of Exum's injury, which occurred around 1:00 PM Mountain time this afternoon.
Exum looked like the likely candidate to remain the Utah Jazz's starting point guard next season. The No. 5 pick in the 2015 draft performed well on defense, but badly on offense, during his rookie campaign.
Update: Utah Jazz PR just released the following statement:
Exum suffered a left knee injury today while competing for the Australian National Team in a game against the Slovenian National Team in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Exum was initially treated on site and will now return to Salt Lake City for further medical evaluation by the Utah Jazz medical staff and official healthcare partner University of Utah Health Care. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.
Update 2: Deseret News Jazz beat reporter just tweeted this on the situation:
Initial concern is that Dante Exum might have suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, per a source. Jazz will know more when he's evaluated. — Jody Genessy (@DJJazzyJody) August 4, 2015
