NORTH OGDEN — A 20-year-old man was arrested over the weekend in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl, North Ogden police announced Monday.

Martize Washington, 20, of Ogden, was arrested Saturday and booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of rape and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Washington and his alleged victim were acquaintances through a mutual friend and had been communicating with each other through social media, according to North Ogden police detective Paul Rhoades.

On Wednesday, Washington invited the girl to meet him at a motel, but the girl declined, Rhoades said. He then convinced her to meet him at a business near 2550 N. 400 East, police said.

"Upon meeting, Washington used a rouse to lure the female to the back of another business. They walked to the rear of that business, where Washington reportedly raped the female," Rhoades said.

After the assault, the girl ran home and told her mother what happened. Her mother then took her to McKay-Dee Hospital Center.

Police found Washington at Motel 6, 1455 Washington Blvd., on Saturday and arrested him.

In May, Washington was charged in North Ogden Justice Court with theft, a class B misdemeanor, according to Utah court records. A pretrial conference in that case is scheduled for Aug. 17.
