SOUTH OGDEN — A man who illegally owned 13 firearms told police after his arrest that he wanted to either go to jail or die in a shootout with officers, according to charges filed Friday in 2nd District Court.

Michael Jason Hohosh, 32, also complained he had fired shots at his home for weeks without a response by police, court documents allege.

Hohosh is charged with 13 third-degree felony counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person; three class A misdemeanor counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person; and single counts of possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.

Police visited Hohosh's home twice at 825 E. 38th St. on July 21, first for a report that shots had been fired. Officers said they originally didn't find anything.

Police were called back to Hohosh's home after someone noticed the windows of his vehicle were shot out, according to charging documents.

Hohosh allegedly told officers he had fired his AR-15 assault rifle in his driveway. Police discovered marijuana, a glass pipe, three knives and firearms that included assault rifles, handguns and one shotgun "in plain view inside the home," charging documents state.

Hohosh told officers, "I have been shooting at my house for weeks, and you guys never came and got me," charges state.

One of the South Ogden police officers booking Hohosh into jail reportedly asked him if there would be a shootout if he were released. Hohosh allegedly shrugged his shoulders and gave a noncommittal grunt. Then he told officers he had wanted police to come to his home so he could either get arrested or "die in a gunfight," according to charging documents.

Hohosh is called a "danger to the community" in court documents filed by South Ogden police. He is being held in the Weber County Jail without bail.

Hohosh's initial court date is scheduled for Monday.
